Venezuela: Academic and Political Forum Meeting to Address the Situation of Colombia

The Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Yvan Gil, headed on Thursday in Caracas the installation of a political and academic forum on the situation in Colombia, This space focuses on bilateral relations and seeks to contribute to the stability of this nation and to face the threat of a coup against President Gustavo Petro.

Opening the space for debate, the Venezuelan Chancellor expressed that they follow with great attention the latest events in Colombia. From Venezuela we are at the full disposal of its authorities to contribute to its stability, he said.

He recalled that a process of normalization of bilateral relations is taking place between the two nations. He said that millions of Colombian compatriots live, work, contribute in Venezuela and share their Bolivarian feeling.

He highlighted the political will of President Gustavo Petro to begin the normalization of bilateral relations, after the break imposed by former President Iván Duque and the numerous destabilizing attempts against Venezuela hatched from the neighboring nation.

He explained that the forum will focus on bilateral relations and help identify what actions should be taken to contribute to maintaining stability, peace and good relations between both peoples and nations.

He added that the debate will help to launch joint actions based on respect for sovereignty, self-determination and non-interference in internal affairs.

We are interested in the interrelationship between both countries to give us a complementary and solidary exchange, so that they increase joint productive projects, trade and security, Gil, who assured that both governments are fully committed to moving forward with the normalization of their relations.

Any threat to the stability of Venezuela and Colombia must be identified and examined, said the Vanezolano Chancellor, who recalled that bilateral trade will exceed this year $1 billion. He added that it has prospects for further growth.

The former Colombian Foreign Minister, Álvaro Leyva Durand, is present during the deliberations.
